Where the Chinese terms are used, we used the Hanyu Pinyin transliteration rather than the provided katakana reading to help preserve those words' sense of foreignness within the setting. English terms, like Galactive Interactive, were adopted from the provided romaji readings. English words used in casual speech are italicized.

While the string spiderfish (糸引鰯, イトヒキイワシ, itohiki iwashi) has an existing English name, the attenuated spider fish (Bathypterois atricolor), we decided to go with a more literal translation closer to the Japanese meaning of “string pull”. This was intended to emphasize the stringy aspect of the fish, given Terra's use of the string in decomping the pillar boat.
For the parrotfish (ゲンブダイ, genbudai) though, it was unclear what the ゲン in its name referred to. It has several meanings (original, reddish black, limit, and phantom being the most common) and there wasn't much information to narrow down these options other than the habitat. We decided to go with 弦, or bowstring, keeping on the theme of stringy-ness on this fishing expedition.
The original name, バチゴンドウ (bachi gondō) is a Japanese name commonly applied to dolphins within the subfamily Globicephalinae. The tails of the dolphin and orca species within this subfamily are shaped like bachi (撥), the type of plectrum used to play the shamisen and biwa.
